Gallbladder neuroendocrine neoplasm
Identification and history
- Name: Yuma
- Report and medical history: Dog, Jack Russell, neutered female, 11 years old.
Clinical visit requested for polyuria and polydipsia.
Diagnostics
The two-dimensional ultrasound examination shows a hyperechoic neoformation with an inhomogeneous echo structure projecting into the lumen of the gallbladder.
In this image, the neoformation with relative dimensions of 1.60 x 2 cm is observed.
The ultrasound image acquired with Color Doppler mode highlights the significant vascularization of the neoformation with relative flow direction.
The macroscopic appearance of the neoformation is visible in the figure. The anatomopathological report shows a densely cellular, nondemarcated, noncapsular neoplasm with fibrovascular infiltrating growth.
Images were acquired with the MyLab™OmegaVET system.
Conclusions and treatment
Following ultrasound examination and histological examination, a neuroendocrine neoplasm of the gallbladder (carcinoid) was diagnosed. The patient therefore underwent cholecystectomy.
